Meet The Wish Pixies - Handmade In Inverloch

Designer Dainy Sawatzky, based right here in Inverloch, has an infectious enthusiasm for all things "dolls". By her own admission she basically never grew up and her love for dolls and sewing never left her. After having children of her own she felt it was a great excuse to get back into it but with a few really important values added - nurturing positive self image and self belief, keeping all products Australian (and ethically) made by creating cloth toys that enhance a child's sense of magic and play.

From her Inverloch workshop and base Dainy has created a magical empire called "These Little Treasures" of which the Wish Pixes are the latest collection.

Dainy - Tell us about your creative process

We love to create dolls that are all about play! Not only that, we're pretty big on encouraging kids to feel positive while they are using truck loads of imagination. All our dolls are created with these principles in mind - add to that the vital ingredients of fun, whimsy and originality and we hope that this is where you'll find that unique gift of special companion for your child  that will be treasured forever.

Your latest collection, the Wish Pixies are stunning - what was the inspiration?

The Wish Pixie is a little doll with a big plan - to help children overcome the emotional challenges that can come with growing up, by using the power of self belief, positivity and a little bit of magic. The Pixies are intended to be your child's tiny companion. But they are more than that – with the addition of a little pocket on the back, the doll becomes a portal through which 'Pixie Messages' can be left, offering encouragement and support for the child to believe in themselves and make their own wishes come true. 

Each doll has hand sewn features unique to it's character and the body is made from natural linen fabric and stuffed with recycled filling made from water bottles.

Each tiny cloth doll has a little pocket on it's back, which contains a hidden secret spell. Start by reading the spell with the child. The 'magic' of saying the spell out loud, awakens the child's 'Inner Pixie' or 'self awareness'. Now when the child cuddles the doll tight and whispers the wish (challenge to overcome) in the Pixie's ear, the goal is set.
