Michael Chizzoniti - "Chizza" is a familiar face and something of a local legend in Inverloch & Tarwin Lower and has owned and operated barbershops and salons in the region for the last 20 years. You are guaranteed two things when booking an appointment - a great haircut and great conversation. We caught up with him this week for a trim and some of that famous banter.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Hello Inverloch 3996 - I’m Michael Chizzoniti, 46 but feel much younger ;-). I've lived in Inverloch with my family now for the past 20 years and absolutely love it. I’m a hairdresser by trade, and I’ve been at it now for nearly a quarter of a century....!
Why did you want to become a hairdresser
lWow - I think I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser back when I was just 16 in my second year of high school, I really wanted to do something creative and loved the idea of working with people, I did work experience in a salon in Leongatha, Loved it so much I was hooked, and that was it.
What's the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is changing peoples appearance and seeing them walk out of my shop with a big smile on their face. The banter as well. It's great to build relationships with people over time and find out whats going on in their lives and what makes them tick. I'm a social creature at heart so this is the perfect gig for me.
What is the biggest misconception people have about your job?
Ha - that's easy..! That I can recreate any hairstyle they see in a magazine on any hair type, it just doesn’t work that way. I have to be very diplomatic sometimes ;-)
What do you love most about living in this part of the world?
What's not to love about this area, the amazing beaches, quiet little towns, beautiful people, I really can't think of a better place to of raised my family.
What's your ideal way to spend the day when not at work?
Spending time with my beautiful family whether it’s going water skiing in the Tarwin, swimming at our many beautiful beaches, taking the dogs for walks or bike riding down the street for a coffee or ice cream. Since Gusto has opened in Inverloch I do to tend to cycle there a bit too often, the ice cream is out of this world - I pedal harder on the way back home though ;-)
