One of our favourite spots in Inverloch for a coffee and catch up is Green Heart Organics - on a rare quiet moment we had a fabulous cuppa with Mel and asked her to tell us something about Green Heart Organics that we might not know. Let's just say it was an education ;-)

Mel, we are seeing more and more in the media about the War On Waste - can you tell us how Green Heart Organics Inverloch is playing a part?

If you haven't been watching "War On Waste" I'd highly recommend you catch up - it's been a great eye opener for many people. I'm absolutely loving how it's making people think about their actions and especially their purchases. Simple steps and changes can be good for you, the environment and the community we all live in.

We love a Green Heart latte - why do you use Sacred Grounds coffee?

Conventional coffee is grown using chemical fertilizers & pesticides, & is normally produced in the rainforests of Central & South America. Many of the areas that conventional coffee is produced in have been cleared by farmers causing extensive damage to the ecosystem. This has become an increasingly serious issue over recent decades.

Outside of it's environmental benefit, coffee grown organically does not expose you to the health risks of pesticides and fertiizers. Another major benefit that many organic coffee drinkers swear by is the flavour of the bean. But hey - don't take our word for it, pop in and see if you agree that the body and character of our Sacred Grounds blend is incredible.

Tell us 10 things we don't know about Green Heart Organics?

Oh wow - nothing like putting me on the spot! - OK here goes:

• ​We offer a discount every single time you bring your own cup to put your coffee in - saving you money on every cup - we've done this for years :-)

 

• We are so passionate about organics here that there are no more than 5% of our products that are not certified organic. these are clearly labelled with blue shelf tags (certified organic products have a green shelf tag). These items are mostly sustainable items unable to be certified like salts.

 

• Every aspect of our coffee is made from certified organic ingredients; the coffee itself, the milk and the choices of sweeteners.

 

• We do not offer plastic bags. We offer recycled boxes of Boomerang Bags. Boomerang Bags are made by lovely local volunteers from recycled materials and are loaned out for whatever length of time you require them.

 

• We offer a range of products in refill to reduce packaging, including a large range of dried herbs and spices, dishwashing liquid, agave syrup and apple cider vinegar.

 

• Our fresh range of fruit and vegetables are all Australian certified organic, everything is as local as possible, and each shelf tag has it's certifier and state of origin so you can easily see the details of your purchase.

 

• We pass on all vegetable, fruit scraps and coffee grounds to a customer who utilizes them in her garden ps there is no wastage.

 

• Our packaging is biodegradable. When buried it degrades in 90-120 days.

 

• We believe we have the best eggs from the happiest chickens anywhere around - supplied by Ruby Hills Organics.
