Sea change is a story that rings true for Cade Zun & Mairead Taylor. The couple & their children left the Melbourne region for the Bass Coast & Cape Paterson. We caught up with them recently to talk about the benefits of the move and to learn more about Zun & Associates, Cade's Taxation & Accounting practice based in Wonthaggi.
Cade, you had over 10 years experience in the tax and accounting industry in Melbourne - what prompted you to move back home?
We came home to be closer to family and friends. We also wanted to raise our kids in the same environment that we had grown up in. There is something special about growing up in the country and especially being close to the beach.
When did you interest in accounting begin?
My family has long been involved in the accounting and tax industry. My dad is an accountant and has been in practice for over 30 years. I first caught the accounting bug in late high school.
Do you see the Bass Coast as a growth region for business?
Absolutely - we see the Bass Coast as an area of great opportunity. The Bass Coast is a beautiful part of the world, yet still really close to Melbourne. There are many young families moving to the area which in turn provides great demand for local goods and services. We are finding that our start up businesses are having great success in a very short amount of time.
What were the considered benefits in living coastal life over city life?
We were really looking for balance. A balance between work, lifestyle and community. We wanted our kids to enjoy the environment they lived in and appreciate being part of a strong community, which is often lost in city life. Everyone really looks after each other in the country and we are really grateful to be a part of that.
What are people looking for in accountant today?
People more than anything are looking for an accountant that is accessible and able to provide ongoing advice and support. Accountants need to work with businesses every step of the way in relation to compliance, growth, opportunities, tax, superannuation & risk. Small businesses today have to manage a lot of risk and we aim to help support and guide them to make the very best decisions for their circumstances.
What is your speciality in accounting?
My niche is in developing and supporting small to medium business. I help to streamline and systemise business processes as well as providing the structure and platform for growth. I am passionate about helping business improve their outcomes by allowing key people in the business the
opportunity to focus on their individual strengths.
